Loadshedding hours to decrease from Wednesday

Loadshedding hours is known to decrease officially from Sunday. The melting of ice in the Himalayas and the pre-monsoon has made water level in the river and reservoir, to rise significantly which has unofficially reduced the load-shedding time. Bizmandu reports the loadshedding hours to be reduced by 2 hours to 8 hours per day, quoting NEA Executive Director Arjun Kumar Karki and the new schedule to release on June 1, 2014 (Jestha 18, 2071). Earlier the power cut hours was decreased by 2 hours on May 14, 2014.
Nepal being the second richest country in the world with water resources, has the enormous potential of producing 83,000 MW but we are living under maximum 12 hours per day of load-shedding for this year 2071. According to the studies, we are running short of 550 Mega watt electricity as the production lies around 750 Mega watt. Though the biggest Hydropower project Upper Tamakoshi is in full swing to generate 456 Mega watt electricity, it is not expected to give in to the national grid before mid 2016. Until then, we will have to live under no electricity. As Industries cannot sustain and flourish without the NEA supply, whole development of the country is under seize due to the loadshedding. Even after the operation of Upper Tamakoshi hydropower, the loadshedding won't be wiped out as the demand will also increase then. So, Government need to invest more in different hydropower projects in parallel so as to remove the loadshedding completely.

Kantipur TV to broadcast Fifa world cup 2014 in Nepal

May 30, 2014: Kantipur Television, the leading Television station in Nepal, is known to telecast all of the Fifa world cup 2014 games. Aryan films production which has got the rights to broadcast the mega event in Nepal, is working with Kantipur to air all the games live. Government owned Nepal Television has been broadcasting the previous world cup games but it is not clear whether NTV will also be airing it. It was NTV and Avenues TV who telecast the world cup 2010 matches with Media Hub holding the sole rights.
Sony Six channel in India has won the exclusive rights to cover the event, from Kick off, Closing, actual games to the run up to the FIFA world cup 2014 that showcases special programs like World cup history, team and players profile. Sony Six will be another option to watch the live games if it is included in your cable. I have recently auto searched channels in my cable TV-> Subisu where I did not find the channel. But I am sure if the match previews are worth it, they will definitely bring it, as no one wants to miss the opportunity to cash the enormous enthusiasm for the biggest event of the world.
It is also not clear if Starsports India (the biggest sports TV in this subcontinent) will be showing the world cup events.

Teledensity surges to 88.5 percent, known to cross 100 within this year.

Teledensity indicates overall telecom development of a country, which is measured as the no of phones per 100 people. According to the latest MIS report from NTA (Nepal Telecommunication Authority), Teledensity has surged to 88.5 percent in the country with the total  no of phone lines reaching 2.35 Million in which mobile alone contributes to more than 2 Million. As all of the investment and competition in telecommunication is happening in the mobile sector, the no of mobile lines are increasing  very rapidly. Government owned Nepal Telecom and Private Giant Ncell are the top two telcos that have their services all around the country, which are going fierce with the expansion of their services to vie for the top spot. Though Ncell ousts Nepal Telecom in the total no of SIM/ phone lines distributed ( 1 Million vs 1.1 Million), the comparison of active no of subscribers can only be ensured if we see the VLR (Visitor Location Register) of both the operators as VLR shows the active no. of subscribers at an instant. If we keep on analyzing Teledensity with the no of SIM/phone lines distributed, it is expected to cross 100 percent within this year.
GSM is the most popular technology here in Nepal with almost 2 million users and have a huge addition in each month whereas CDMA and Landline subscribers are growing at a very lazy rate. The internet penetration rises to 31.69 from 31 percent in the month of Chaitra, which is mainly due to the expansion of GPRS and 3G across the country by NT and Ncell. These days NT is more aggressive in expanding their network whereas Ncell is promoting their already existing network with schemes/offers. With the current trend, the internet penetration will swell to 50% within this year.
Nepal Telecom still leads over Ncell in data segment as shown in the previous month post at Nepalitelecom.com.

How to deal with stealing of mobile phone.

As the mobile phone prices grow heavy with the eye catching features, there are more chances of getting it stolen. Phones ranging from a medium level smartphone to the flagship phones, are most likely to be stolen. Even if such phones reach someone unintentionally, there is very less probability that he/she will return it. I  have tried to deal with many lost phones from my friends, neighbor and relatives, but have succeeded in single or a two in getting back the lost phone. So people carrying smartphones themselves must be careful in handling their phone to prevent stealing, also you have to act precisely in case it gets stolen. Here are some of the tips you have to keep in your mind.

Save your phone details.
As the phone is prone to be lost anytime, you have to save the phone model and the unique IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number somewhere. As operators could track or even black list a phone with IMEI, you have to keep the IMEI of the phone along with the proof that it belongs to you. Even the phone box carriers the IMEI with it. Cloud is the best place to save the text file or the snapshot of the phone box. You should do it on the very day you bought the phone.

Use security lock or PIN to lock the phone.
There are some phones with which you can lock the phone with PIN code so that they could not easily use the phone or take out the private data of yours. Try putting the PIN code if you have it in your phone.

Keep your phone near to you.
Phones are more likely to be stolen when you keep your phone a little far. As you cannot feel the phone, you are not aware when you actually left it to be stolen. Although you put your phone near to you may be inside your pocket, make sure it fits well inside so that it is not easy to steal it out or drop on its own.

Install a tracking app.
There are Android, Windows and iOS apps that can track your phone once it gets stolen. Some phone with internet connection provides you the location of the phone whereas some sends you the mobile number of the new SIM that is used after being stolen through SMS.

Report to Police immediately.
Even if you cared most for your phone, there are some accidents that make you loose your phone. Once the phone is lost, do not panic. First thing you need to do is report that to Police, which can be used later as an evidence to show it to the carrier or to claim your insurance.

Disable your SIM.
If your lost mobile gets in to the hand of a criminal and it is used in some of the criminal acts, you may be responsible as the number is registered on your name. So after having registered of the phone lost, disable the SIM card from the security number you have or contact your operator, instead of waiting for him/her to pick up the phone.

Contact your operator.
Some operator even directly entertain the lost phone complains and they will help you get the phone after filing a complain with a proof of owning the phone with the unique IMEI. Otherwise you could ask them to black list the phone to be used in their network. Nepal Telecom is yet to formalize the procedure to take complains for the genuinely lost phone.

Woda number cha and Cha Ekan Cha

The production team which brought us feeble comedy "Cha Ekan Cha" in the year 2070, is known to make another comedy movie entitled "Woda number cha". Despite the weak presentation, the movie joined the crore club and was one of the blockbuster of the year 2070. Six actors namely Dipak Raj Giri, Shibahari Paudel, Jitu Nepal, Sandip Chetri, Kedar Ghimire and Sitaram Kattel will also be starring in the movie, whereas Director Dinesh DC and Actress Nita Dhungana won't be repeated, as merocinema.com and onlinekhabar reported quoting Dipak Raj.
Nirmal Sharma "Gaida" of comedy serial "Tito Satya" along with Dipak's reel life partner Deepashree Niraula are the helping hands for Dipak to make a "Genuine" comedy movie that is in final stage of writing. With the name itself and the production team, people started speculating if "Wada number cha" is a sequel of Cha Ekan Cha, Dipak clarified the movie not to start from where the previous movie ended.

World cup Football 2014 Schedule in Nepali Date and Time (PDF)

As the Fifa World cup 2014 is approaching near, people search for the news for the most celebrated event of the world and even download the schedule of the whole tournament. But the timings of all the matches are not available in our Nepali time and people need to do the conversion every time they need to see the timings. So I have done some compilation and calculation to put the schedule in Nepali date and time. Brazil is hosting the 20th International Men Football tournament and the opening ceremony is going to take place on Thursday June 12 at Sao Paulo before the kickoff of the match Brazil Vs Croatia (Nepali Time 01:45 Jestha 30, 2071).
Altogether 32 countries from Africa, Asia, America, and Europe are allocated to eight groups, each containing 4 teams. Each team play all other in the group stage, resulting in altogether of 48 matches (Six games in each group * eight group). Top two teams (due to the points) from each group qualify for the round of 16, and they play the knockout stages (Quarterfinal, Semifinal) to reach the Final. The Final match of World cup 2014 will be held at Marcana Stadium, Rio de Janerio on July 13 1:45 am Nepali time (Ashad 30, 2071) and the winner along with such prestigious cup, will get $ 35 million.
Nepali are crazy for Football and most of us don't miss a single match in this whole tournament despite the wee (awkward) hours. For this mega event there will be screenings in all of the sports bar, pubs and restaurants in Thamel, Durbarmarg of Kathmandu and in other cities too. Some locals even organize a gathering with the screening of the games through moderate Projector, with generator as a backup for Loadshedding hours. As power cut is expected to reduce more by then and the availability of screenings everywhere, people without battery backup need not worry much. Live streaming is another solution in the cities where 3G is available, but make sure you have enough balance and battery in your mobile.
Government owned Nepal Television (NTV) has been broadcasting the World cup tournaments from a very long time even Avenues TV did it for 2010 world cup through Media Hub. But it is not clear who has got the rights to telecast the world cup 2014 matches live in Nepal.

Maha jatra 2071

Madan Krishna and Hari Bansha are the most valued celebrities of our country, and people have so much respect to them as they always stand in favor of Nepali people, apart from entertaining them with comedy and music. Every serials, live show from the comedy duo, popularly called Maha has been a major success in their career till now. Apart from comedy postures, satires and caricature of the characters around us, they don't even tire of giving good message to the society. Though they were doing good with solo performance , Madan dai and Haribansha dai started doing their program together in the anniversary program of Nepal Rastra Bank 2037 B.S and ever since Maha duo bond got glued with people's love such that they are still going firm together. So far I remember 216777 is the first comedy serial from Maha jodi that I had watched. Being a kid, I was quite afraid of the song "Ghas Katne khurkera" and horrific attire of Hari Bansha Acharya but not more than a neighboring kid who took a leak in his pants. Bakhunde Bhoot and the ever popular "Pandra Gate" were the next serials that gave us full entertainment and for me 15 gate is one of the finest comic serial from them. The versatile actors have written, directed and produced several movies with themselves as actors, spreading awareness in people at some crucial moments in the Political history of Nepal like People's Movement, Wrong way of Multiparty democracy, Killings Extortion during Maoists Revolt, Peace Dialogue, Constituent Assembly Election, Constitution making process and the ethnic division among Nepali people with the hidden motive e.t.c. Apart from politics, they even raised awareness about HIV,Corruption, Forest conservation, and many more. Audio cassette, Video CD of their stage shows were also a major hit. All of their Gaijatra shows were houseful, with which they even managed to satire the reigning Panchayat Regime and Royal Regime that time.
Today (May 22) they finished off  "Maha jatra" 2071: stage show at Pragya Bhawan Kamaladi (most happening place for such comic shows), marking the every day Gaijatra in Nepali politics, which is the duo's comeback in the stage after seven years. They started the three hour show with Maha Prathana where they questioned God for not giving single genuine leader to our country. The first stanza went like this:
Ishwor timile jagat Banayau.
Jagatkai ramro Prithvi Banayau.
Prithvi ma ramro Nepal Banayau
Yehi Nepal ma Pahad himal Tarai pani khanayau
Tara Euta swoccha man ko, safa man ko neta dina kina tauko kanayau?

The border checkpost by Rajaram Poudel and Kiran KC highlighted the India Nepal Border issue and analyzed the similarity/difference between the political counterparts. Shivahari Poudel later cited the panacea to all problems in the country is to take away  pro Indian and Pro Chinese leaders towards India and China respectively.
The duo then gave a big blow to the caste/ethnicity based federalism through a show named Sabdantachari where Hari Bansha played as Newar Bahadur and Madan Krishna played as Bahun Bahadur to mimic and satire the cast based differentiation, realizing people of the demerits of such system. Basundhara Bhusal and Mohit Bansha Acharya acted as Umpire and Tyampire for the show.
Then came Ma don ko Photo studio- where they showed how a innocent/jobless man turns into a Don accomplice with the current impunity state and the political protection to the culprits.
With some dances and songs break in-between, the show ended with a parody musical fight between Bhrastachar (Corruption) and Bikash (Development).
As it was prohibited to take picture inside the show, I managed to took some picture before and after the show. Here are the pictures taken from my mobile phone.
Rs 300 and Rs 500 ticket sold out. Only Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 to choose from.

Xiaomi releases a tablet named MiPad

Xiaomi- the Chinese smartphone maker that recently surged to the no sixth spot in the smartphone shipments in the first quarter of this year, has announced the release of its first tablet along with the second version of Mi TV, in an event at Beijing today. Both the devices are expected to challenge Apple, Samsung and Sony for being cheap and made with build quality.
The tablet named as Mi Pad is priced at $240 (1500 Yuan) is powered by a 2.2 Ghz Tegra K1 processor (the first tablet with Tegra processor), 2 GB RAM and has 7.9 inch IPS display. Rear Camera is 8 MP whereas the front one is 5 MP (Good for the people who wanna take good quality selfie). Available in five different Colors (White, blue, yellow, pink, Green), the tablet has got whopping 6700 mAh for the 24 hours reading and 16 hours video playback backup. The 240 $ price tag is for 16 GB version and the 64 GB version will just cost you $30 more, with the expandable memory slot up to 128 GB. Only Wifi 802.11 a, b, n, g, ac and Bluetooth 4.0 are mentioned for the connectivity whereas it is mum for the cellular variant. Beta launches are known to be done in June which is a very hard to grab for the people living outside China, at that time.

Xiaomi has also launched the second version of its HDTV: MI TV 2 which is a 49 inch 4K television running on MIUI over Android, with a price tag of $640 (4000 Yuan).
Contrary to the rumor, there was no Mi3s release, similarly no word for MIUI v6 (with Android 4.4.2 Kitkat) release. I hope this two are reserved for the another Xiaomi event planned for July/August.
With such cheaper and quality products, the fast selling Chinese company will only be growing big as it did in a very short time. The company awaits global expansion after their success in current Asian market lineup, to replace Samsung and Apple for the top spot in smartphone business.

Aawaran movie preview (Is it a copy?)

Aawaran the movie set to release on Friday, is giving me this feeling that the movie is either a direct copy or inspired from a Hollywood flick. With the movie trailer which shows a women with two kids, haunted house and suspense regarding the haunter, I suspect it to be a remake of Nicole Kidman starer "The others". In that movie, the women tries to protect her photosensitive children from the haunter inside the house but the reality is exact opposite as the shown strangers are the ones who are actually being haunted by them.
Subash Koirala who adapted the Korean movie "Castaway on the moon" for his directorial debut Apabad, made an impression on me for expecting excellency in his future works. I think Priyanka Karki (after success of Jholay) will have significant acceptance for this role, as we are already delighted with her vocal in the OST featuring Yama Buddha.
Even if the whole movie plot or a part of it is inspired or direct copied, the movie should entertain people with nice presentation and performance, then only it can be considered worth and justifiable. Writer Anil Yonjan might be aware of this fact before putting ink on the story/script. The movie has already made a premiere show on Thursday eve, which is only for the celebrities and their near ones. So, many people have already known the fact about the remake / copy / adaptation but I have to wait till I watch the movie on my penny.

New loadshedding schedule May 14 2014 (Jestha 2071)

NEA (Nepal Electricity Authority)- the government owned sole authority for generating and distributing electricity in the country, has announced reduction of loadshedding hours by 2 hours. With the new load-shedding routine effective from May 14, 2014 (Baisakh 31, 2071), there will be 10 hours power cut daily
Due to rise of water level in the river and Kulekhani reservoir, NEA is able to reduce the power cut hours which is a slight relief to the households and small businesses. Now after rain starts to pour, the loadshedding will gradually decrease, but there will be loadshedding even in the peak monsoon.
Here is the new loadshedding schedule effective from Baishak 31 Wednesday (May 14, 2014).
As official schedule is in Nepali, I have taken the snapshot of the same.

NPL all set to start from May 14.

First ever Nepal Premier League (NPL) Cricket is all set to commence from May 14 in Dhangadi. After cancellation of two days format due to scorching weather, the 50 over match will be first held at Falpa ground of Kailali District from May 14, and the Twenty20 to follow from June 4 at TU stadium, Kirtipur.

Six corporate houses are known to participate in the league which is organized by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and managed by Zohra Sports Management (ZSM). All the six teams are led by National cricket team heroes. The six teams are Kantipur Gurkhas, Vishal Group Warriors, Jagadamba Giants, Sagarmatha Legends, Tej and Colors X Factors, which are owned by big names in business houses Kantipur Media Group, Vishal Group, Shankar Groups, Ghorahi Cements, Panchakanya Group and Teletalk Pvt. Ltd.
Basanta Regmi leads Kantipur Gukhras whereas Paras Khadka is the captain of Vishal Warriors. Similarly Shakti Gauchan leads Jagadamba Giants, Binod Bhandari for Sagarmatha legends, Sharad Veswakar for Tej and Gyanendra Malla captains Colors X Factor.

Despite the shortage of cricket stadiums, we are holding this first edition of NPL, a National Cricket Tournament in two formats (ODI and T20). It is obvious that this short of events will help the growth of Nepali Cricket, filling the gap of domestic cricket tournament.
Winners for each format are known to get Rs 200,000 (which is not that hefty sum but is nice to start with). Ncell is the sole sponsor of the Tournament which has made a deal for 2 years.
Here is the schedule of the NPL match from May 14 to May 22 at Falpa Ground, Kailali.

OST of Red monsoon by Locan Rijal (with lyrics).

Eelum Dixit directorial debut "Red Monsoon" is released here in Nepal from Friday (May 9, 2014). The movie which was screened in Mumbai International Film festival and very own KIMFF (Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival), has got mixed reviews till now but the OST from the movie is a already a hit among city dwellers, with the soothing music and vocal from Lochan Rijal. He has used the traditional instrument called Arbaja for the soundtracks like Pailaharu and Samaj. Arbaja is a Nepali instrument that was played by Gandharvas for so many years before but almost in the phase of extinction. It seems Lochan is so determined to save this instrument that he is using it in all of his latest songs including the soundtracks. The latest song Samaj is no exception with the heavy lyrics and melodious instrumental pieces. Lochan Rijal rocks!!!

Here is the lyrics of the song "Samaj".

Tyo pahad bata badal hatayo bhane * 2
Indreni ka rang haru dekhincha ra.
Tyo nadi bata sagar chutayo bhane *2
Mitrata nai bajho bajho huncha ra.

Kasingar hatdaima samaj safa hune bhaye
Manav jati le odar ma grihasthi basauthe sayed
Malai ta kasingar pani ta pyaro
Odar bhaye ni Nyano.
Kebal Uljhan haru matra garoooooooo hooooo hooooo.

Samadhan bhanda samasya apnayo bhane
Mahatwo kancha lalach Ghrina baddaina ra

Chetan sahayog karuna astayo bhane
Daya ra maya bhanne nibdaina ra
