Badhshala movie review.

Finally, after more than a month of wait and some dialogues of the movie makers with Nepal Army and Censor board, Badhshala got released in Nepali cinemas from Baishak 6 as the release date of Falgun 25 gone in vain due to censor board's indecision and Nepal Army's objection. The movie was already released uncensored in Australia and some other countries and I too had written the first review based on what my friends from Australia conversed to me. Here is what I felt about the movie after watching.
Badhshala is a story of torture inside an army barrack (Bhairab Nath Gand) during the emergency period due to maoists insurgency. The story being based on the books like Adhyara 258 dinharu by Jitman Basnet, Manav Badhshala by Krishna KC and an anonymous article written by an anonymous Army shows an innocent teacher who is taken to Badshala -(meaning slaughter house in english) for accused of being a maoists, face the humiliation and his hope to go alive from the barrack dies eventually. The army batallion is shown to contain many detainees both innocent civilians and maoists cadres, who are forced to commit themselves of being maoists by signing a paper written by the army and are ultimately killed in a jungle.
Movie also depicts stubborness of a maoist cadre who refuse to give information about their shelter, the whereabouts of their party leaders and who does not even get afraid of being shot when he was taken to a jungle to show some demo live gun shots killing.

Though Director Manoj Pandit told me in a candid converstaion that he is against the whole idea of blaming a movie to take sides, the movie written and directed by him manages to keep the balance
for not taking either sides. The movie shows how the detainees are humiliated, tortured and disappeared from an army batallion and portrays the cruelness of a national army towards maoist rebel without supporting the maoists agendas for the war against the state.
Movie even shows how Royal Nepal Army officers developes some relation with the detainees where in a scene the army major invites discussion with the maoist in a tea sitting and an army even makes tobacco for the innocent teacher. There is a conversation between the army major and the maoist where they point each other for violating human rights, with army treating people like animal inside the barrack and maoists threatening people for donation. The argument is truely a neutral depiction of what people feel about the both sides and it also shows how the both sides feel right for their work, one for the achievement of people's right through revolution and another for the security of the state and its people.
The torture story takes turn when a letter from one of the detainees gets leaked to the outside world, and to know more what follows suit you should visit theatres near you.
Though some cutting of the torture sequences by the censor board and silencing of Maoist leaders name make the movie somewhat feeble, the acting/performance, background score, plot and the
cinematrography puts the movie at a superior position and I see it as a landmark in the Nepali Movie history. Some moments like the fast dialogue from angry Arpan Thapa's character that is hard to catch and repetition of the same torture again and again comes to me as the downsides. Lastly with such superb movie made on our native story and without much remarkable budget, I feel like its a big slap to all those movie makers who mixes story from bollywood to reshow it in Nepali and to all who allege the movie budget to be the major hurdle for excellent movies.

Rabi Lamichane- a popular TV host/RJ before, breaks a record in Nepal for the worlds longest television talk show after 60 hours of continuous interviewing with various personalities. More than 100 well known personalities from different walks of life like politicians, actors, singers, business persons, and many others were interviewed in the talk show from Thursday 10:30 am to Saturday 10:30 pm that is being aired on News24 television channel. In a bid to promote Nepal to be recognized as the land where Lord Buddha was born, he breaks the Ukranian record of 52 hours.
News24 TV also stopped its regular news update and other programs to air this 60 hours television live show, without any advertisement which is a very big thing to do. Rabi Lamichane sounded so confident and energetic performance even in the wee hours make him win this record to promote our country. News24 TV and other organizing event manager congratulated Rabi in a program outside the TV office at Lazimpat. His brother and prominent Radio prensenter Hari Sharan Lamichane saluted his courage to be success in this venture to promote our country and told his work even signified the need of unity for building country- like the way people are united to wish Rabi a success. Wish I could do something like him. Guinness officials are yet to announce the result officially.

Sajha Yatayat to start bus service in Kathmandu from first of Baishak.

April 7, 2012: Sajha Yatayat- former government owned bus service provider, and now a co-operative is all set to launch the bus service in Kathmandu from this Saturday, the day before New year 2070. Having bought the 16 new buses and already delivered to their premises at Harihar Bhawan- Pulchowk, Sajha Bus will be providing transportation service to commoners with two routes from 5 am to 11 pm in Kathmandu and Lalitpur. The approved two routes are one from Kalanki through Teku, Tripureshor, New Baneshwor, Sinamangal to Airport and back, whereas the other one goes from Satdobato through Jawalakhel, Tripureshor, Ratnapark, Jamal, Lainchaur, Lazimpat, Maharajganj to Gongabu Bus park and back. Sajha says eight of those buses will be run in each route and believes they have optimized the best route to ease the transportation for general People.
According to Manager Mahendra Raj Pandey at Sajha Yatayat, Chief Secretary Lilamani Paudel will be launching the service in an event this Saturday after which the buses will run along the routes in Kathmandu and Lalitpur road and the regular service from the next day: Baishak 1, 2070. He also said that around 60 people have already been recruited for Driver and Conductor in the buses.
The bus manufactured by Indian Company TATA motors, cost Rs 3.4 million (34 Lakh) each. Green Colored, Euro III emission standard bus has 54 seats and 15 standing points. With two doors, one for entrance in the rear and other for exit in the front end (both controllable by Driver), the bus will have conductor near the rear door to sell tickets which is now a paper one but they are planning to pay for the ticket through digital money (cards). Two CCTV cameras and one entertainer/informative TV screen is also fitted in the bus.

Manager Mahendra did not reveal the price of the ticket but mentioned they have complied with Nepal Government Public bus price.
Kathmandu- the metropolitan capital city with inhabitants of  1.8 Million (18 Lakhs) has big problem of public transportation and it goes bizarre especially in the office time (around 10 in the morning and 5 in the evening). Sajha believes people in Kathmandu will be relieved somewhat with the introduction of such big buses. Its better to wait for some time and get a bus than to travel congested inside a small micro bus. I say even routes in ktm that is run by private organizations should be run with big buses instead of small, uncomfortable Micro buses and tempo.
And let there be no political interference in Sajha Yatayat- the reason behind the closure of the Sajha Yatayat in 2058 B.S.

Deep Purple explains Nepal Concert Cancellation.

Deep Purple have explained the reason behind cancelling their appearance in Nepal planned for March 15. The band say they were keen to keep the date, but felt forced to call it off after the promoter breached their contract, leaving them “truly miserable.”
A statement explains: “The agreed fee was not paid as per the contract they had with the promoter of the show, Richard Coram, of Talent Brokers in Dubai.
“Despite several assurances, Talent Brokers failed to deposit the fee into its registered escrow account, even though the band’s management allowed extra time for payment to be made.
“Deep Purple are deeply concerned that fans may feel that the band have let them down, and that those who bought tickets may not have been refunded. The band wish to make it abundantly clear they were ready, willing and able to come to Nepal. Nevertheless, in view of Talent Brokers’ failure to comply with its payment obligations under the contract, the band had had no alternative but to withdraw from the performance.”
Frontman Ian Gillan explains: “I hate it when this sort of thing happens – the first time ever in Nepal and it gets cancelled.
“I want to assure everyone that our management and agency bent over backwards to make this work. But every promise from the promoter was broken. Things dragged on to the last minute and then went past the deadline for our equipment to be delivered.
“Deep Purple will go through hurricanes, earthquakes, riots, and all kinds of hazards just to get there and do the show – but you do need competent connections to be able to achieve this. “We are truly miserable that we couldn’t get there and would love to come over at the first opportunity.”
Purple will release new studio album Now What?! on April 29.

As this sort of news gets published today, Now I feel that the April 26 concert postponement is just a sham and I will go get a refund for those three Gold tickets.

Lyrics of Neta Ji by Joint family Internationale

Neta Ji- a reggae song by Joint family Internationale is going viral in Youtube and social media due to its  extra-ordinary lyrics about the typical political leaders of Nepal. The song is a satire to all those inept and nonproductive leaders whose egoistic tussle resulted in the dissolution of Constituent Assembly without promulgation of New constitution. The song even warns them if they continue doing so, real People (excluding their followers) will boycott them as shown in the music video with people throwing eggs, tomatoes to a Neta Ji wall paint.

The band even request all the leaders of Nepal to give up their personal and political interests and work selflessly for the country and its people.
Let there be light in the leaders mind.
Here is the lyrics of the song Neta Ji by Joint Family Internationale.

Oho Neta Ji.. balla paalnu bho..

Vigilante 3D Nepali movie review.

First ever 3D movie in Nepal- Vigilante got released from Friday and my first half of the saturday holiday went just for the movie.
Vigilante is a movie about lust, love, friendship, and betrayal where a road trip of 6 people(3 guys and 3 girls ) turns into a mishap as they have to live near the jungle due to some problem with one of the bike. Though there is no effort in bringing out the characters at first, the suspense thriller unfolds the nature of six characters along the movie : A broken heart- Niraj (played by Subash Thapa), a marijuana lover- Sujan (Gajadi) played by A Gurung, a cheap girl Seema (Shikha Shahi) in search of new bf, a serious girl Melina (played by Menuka Pradhan) who gets a picture of what happens with them in near future and a new generation couple (Ashish and Shisti played by Raj Ghimire and Priyanka Karki). As they are there to have fun, they do so by playing Kabbadi in the river bank, not so daring bottle spinning game, and some fun by Gajadi works. But when two of them, Seema and Gajadi Sujan goes missing in the night of their stay outside a home of a weirdo, the movie turns to an adventurous way.

Good effort from Stereographer- Purushottam Pradhan for bringing out the first ever 3D experience with a suspense thrilling plot and nice presentation from Director cum Producer Dipendra K Khanal (Director-Chapali Height). But a good plot and a nice adventure with 3D at a perfect location goes in vain due to unrealistic acting and loud dialogues from most of the actors.
Also the long running-away scene without the dialogues makes you impatient at times, which once almost made me walk out of the cinema hall, but stayed just for the full movie review. The movie succeeds to keep the mystery for whether its a horror or a thriller movie as the first scene shows a suicide of a man in groom attire.
Though they could have put some exceptional 3D scenes from such an exotic location, we should praise them for the first ever 3D experience that will obviously inspire others to bring in other technologies to Nepali movie industry but technology should always come together with good performance unless it's an animated one ( I don't know if Full animated feature length Nepali movie is in the coming??). If 3D is only what you are looking from this movie, then go for it but I could not find the new dimension that I was looking for, so the movie is nothing but the 3D. BTW 3D cleavage may be worthy to some :P

Facebook phone with HTC.

As most of the 1 billion Facebook users are accessing it through the smartphones, Facebook- the social media giant wants to make use of this and has released a new application in Android called Facebook Home that changes the android home screen with ultimate Facebook experience displaying the status updates, notifications and the facebook photos right there in the center of the operating system.
Facebook has also released a new phone with HTC called HTC First- the only device with the Facebook Home and Instagram already loaded. It was a rumor back in early 2012 which now turns out to be true but the emphasis is more on the Integration of Facebook with Android rather than the phone designed or optimized for it.

Other features of the HTC First include.

  • Android Jelly Bean 4.1 with Facebook home and Instagram preloaded.
  • 4.3 inch glass display.
  • LTE connectivity with AT&T (USA).
  • Qualcomm Dual Core Processor.
  • 1GB RAM.
  • 5 Mp rear and 1.6 M front Camera.
  • 2000 mAh Battery.
  • Available colors: Black, Red, Light Blue and White.
The medium ranged Smartphone HTC First will be available on the shelf on April 12, and the Facebook Home android app will also be available in Google Play store on the same day.
It seems interesting that the Facebook take on the giants Goggle, having tweaks on their operating system Android. Lets see how will Facebook gets more business with this Home android app, to be available on selective smartphones from HTC and Samsung. Source: Nepalitelecom.com

Nepal in final of ACC T20 Elite Cup 2013, beating UAE.

In an interesting match at TU Kirtipur Ground on Tuesday, Nepal beats UAE by 6 wickets in the semifinal of ACC T20 Elite trophy and advances to meet Afghanistan in the Final. With flying confidence and full packed home ground support, Nepal manages to get the victory against a tough country UAE but with the score 133 it seemed pretty easy earlier. Nepal chase the 133 run with Pradeep Airee's half century and the two crucial sixes in the second last over by Binod Bhandari have also eased the win, with 5 balls remaining. Now, the excitement goes even higher for the finals as this win will sky rocket the confidence of our team and make us able to qualify for the T20 World Cup. Well, Afghanistan is an one-day playing nation and we have lost several times with them but this time, I am very hopeful our boys will make us feel proud. Way to go, Nepal. Play good and Good Luck!
Here is the great six by Bindo Bhandari and winning stroke by Paras Khadka in an Youtube Video.
